A Pair of Antique Brown Sirius Staffordshire 8 Inch Plates 1840
A pair of fine antique Staffordshire brown transferware plates in the "Sirius" pattern. The pattern shows a Romantic foreign landscape with a floral and seaweed border. Well printed in medium browns, marked "Sirius" and impressed "Porcelain Opaque". Usually attributed with these marks to James and Thomas Edwards (1839-1841) of Burslem Staffordshire, but several Staffordshire potteries produced this pattern.
The plates are 8 1/8 inches wide. The pair weighs 1 lb 4 oz (shipping weight 2 lbs).
Condition: Very good, no cracks, chips or repairs, little wear. A little crazing of the glaze, as is almost universal on 200 year old earthenware pottery.
