18 Copeland Spode Hand Painted Victorian Basket of Flowers Plates 1890
Offered for sale is this gorgeous set of Copeland Spode plates in a bright floral pattern, a floral and scroll rim surround a basket of flowers center. The decoration is hand painted over brown transfer. The plates are glazed earthenware with gold trim on the rims. The plates have printed and impressed "Copeland Late Spode" marks, which date the plates to Victorian times, circa 1890. The pattern number 5443 is hand painted on the back.
The plates are 9 inches wide. The set of eighteen weighs 15 lbs 12 oz (shipping weight 20 lbs).
Condition: Excellent with no chips or cracks. No visible wear, not so much as a utensil mark; like new. Seven of the plates have some fine clear crazing of the glaze; the other eleven, not even that. These plates look unused. It is very rare to find such a large set with no wear on the enamels, which during the Victorian period were always painted over the glaze.
